Elephants in Africa

In February, I had the opportunity to photograph a variety of wildlife in Africa. The journey began in Botswana at Mokolodi Nature Reserve near the capital of Gaborone. I was joined by my wife Laurie, daughter Samantha, sister Sally and niece Melissa.

Our next game drive took place at Madikwe Game Reserve in South Africa, where all of us (including son Dominic and daughter-in-law Lorato) spent two days at the Tau Lodge. Madikwe is a hidden gem, at least compared to well-known parks such as Kruger.

Finally, my daughter Samantha and I flew to Kasane, Botswana, to spend five days with Pangolin Photo Safaris. Our twice-a-day photo safaris included both boat and vehicle game drives. We had the opportunity to join one of Africa’s best wildlife photographers, Carolina Norée, as our guide. We stayed at the Pangolin Hotel and enjoyed great meals with other photographers from around the world.

After spending over a week downloading and editing thousands of photos, I’ve narrowed them down to several categories, which I will post here in the coming days. The first slideshow features African elephants, the giant land mammals that have strong family bonds. A second slideshow will feature elephants at Chobe National Park mourning the death of a fellow elephant.

In the days ahead, I will post slideshows of lions, hippos and crocodiles, zebras, giraffes, birds and a potpourri slideshow of other creatures.
